Patti Dock
Principal, Strategies 4 Growth Consulting

Patti Dock is a Principal at Strategies 4 Growth Consulting. A recognized strategic marketer, Ms. Dock has been a first mover in multiple technologies, providing leadership that transformed customer needs into viable technology products. Her experience helped articulate the business messages for a startup technology company that was acquired within one year at nine times their revenue and is now featured in the first chapter of "Getting it Right the First Time."

Ms. Dock was the product marketing executive that launched both WebSphere at IBM and WebLogic at BEA. These products combined for more than $1Billion in revenue in less than five years from their initial launch. Ms. Dock is known for devising and implementing strategies that move products through the steps that make them viable business propositions, leading companies to profitable growth.

Ms. Dock's professional experience includes executive positions at IBM, BEA Systems, and McAfee.com, and she is a member of technical advisory boards at several startups. Her background combines marketing and business experience in finance, telecommunications, and manufacturing industries, and technical experience in application, infrastructure and security software.

Ms. Dock holds a B.A. in Mathematics from the University of West Florida and an M.S. in Computer Science from Kansas State University. She is a is a frequent speaker at technical and industry conferences.

Ms. Dock's experience and success in marketing new technologies is a welcome asset as IDELIX launches its Small ISV program and moves into the online map and portal markets.

James H. Frey
President (Retired), Northrop Grumman TASC

James H. Frey served as Senior Vice President, Group Executive for the Litton Information Systems Group until Northrop Grumman's purchase of Litton in April 2001. In this position, he led the $1.4B group of Litton businesses involved in information technology services. Mr. Frey joined Litton in 1988 as President of Litton Itek Optical Systems and held that position until 1996 when he was appointed Vice President of Strategic Development. Three years later he became the Information Systems Group Executive. He was appointed President of TASC in 1999, a company specializing in systems engineering and program management for large space, intelligence and information management systems.

Mr. Frey took his first steps in the corporate world with General Electric in 1960 as a college graduate participating in the corporate Engineering and Science Program. He completed both the Corporate Advanced Engineering and Executive Development courses at GE and held positions as Program General Manager, Defense Communications Satellites and Chief Engineer for Spacecraft Operations Engineering. He moved into senior management where he held various positions in the Space, and Military and Data Systems Divisions. Mr. Frey was the General Manager of GE's Spacecraft Division when he left GE to join Litton.

Mr. Frey retired from his position as President of Northrop Grumman TASC in March 2002. Since then, he has served on the Advisory Board for the National-Geospatial Intelligence Agency (NGA), and on special panels supporting the management of the National Reconnaissance Office (NRO) and the Director of Central Intelligence (DCI). He also advises private sector clients including SSG Precision Optical, Metron International, ManTech International, and Northrop Grumman.

Darryl N. Garrett
Defense and Intelligence Industry Consultant

Darryl Garrett is an independent consultant, assisting IDELIX with strategic planning and business development within the intelligence community. Currently a Senior Advisor within the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency's (NGA) Enterprise (IT) and InnoVision (R&D) Directorates, Mr. Garrett acted as the Technical Executive to the InnoVision Directorate for the early part of 2004. Over the years, Mr. Garrett has played an active role in various applied technology, research and development programs within the NGA, holding the concurrent roles of Chief Technology Officer and Director of the Technology Office from 1996 to 2000. Recognized for his outstanding leadership of the transition team that created what evolved into today's NGA InnoVision Directorate, Mr. Garrett is an honored recipient of an Intelligence Community Award.

Mr. Garrett has spent the greater part of his career working for the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA). From 1997 until his early retirement in 2000, Darryl served on the Board of Directors for the CIA's Directorate of Science and Technology. Prior to that, Mr. Garrett held a number of distinguished roles within the CIA, such as: Chief of the Applied Technology Support Division for the Office of Imagery Analysis from 1992 to 1994, Research Director for the Office of Leadership Analysis, and Chief of the National Photographic Interpretation Center's (NPIC) Exploitation Support Group. From 1975 to 1989, Mr. Garrett also worked under the CIA's Office of Scientific and Weapons Research (OSWR), where he advanced to senior positions, including: Deputy Chief of the Space Systems Division, Senior Policy Analyst to the White House Science Office, Executive Assistant to the Science Advisor of the President, and Chief of the Antiballistic Missile Branch. At the time of retirement, Darryl held a SIS-05 senior official standing from the CIA, and was given the Career Intelligence Medal for his innovative work with non-traditional industry partners including: Disney Imagineering, Stephen Spielberg's SHOAH Foundation, Planet 9 Studios, and ABC Networks.

Since his retirement from the CIA, Mr. Garrett has worked in the private sector with firms such as BAE SYSTEMS, Photon Research Associates (since acquired by Raytheon), and IDELIX Software Inc. Mr. Garrett's extensive experience and knowledge of the intelligence community will be a great asset to IDELIX as the company advances into this market.

Christopher P. Haakon
CEO and General Manager (Retired), Boeing Autometric

Christopher Haakon is a member of the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency (NGA) Transformation Advisory Group and also works as a consultant to defense companies in the intelligence community.

Prior to consulting, Mr. Haakon served as the Geospatial Initiative Program Director for General Dynamics. He joined General Dynamics following a 40-year career with Boeing Autometric (previously Autometric Inc.). Mr. Haakon began with Autometric in 1963 as an image analyst and eventually became CEO in 1997. When the Boeing Company acquired Autometric in September 2000, Mr. Haakon stayed-on as General Manager of the newly created Boeing Autometric where he maintained and strengthened strategic partnerships in industry, government and across Boeing operations.

With over forty years experience in corporate management, Mr. Haakon's operational and technical background has included imagery analysis and training, requirements analysis, and research in multi-sensor imagery. Mr. Haakon is a retired Navy Reserve Captain who held four command tours, culminating in his service as Reserve Intelligence Area Commander in Washington, DC. Along with serving on the IDELIX Board of Advisors and the NGA Transformation Advisory Group, Mr. Haakon is the Chairman of the Board for the Joint Military Intelligence College Foundation and a member of the National Correlation Working Group Board of Directors. He has also served as a director and advisor on numerous associations, commissions, foundations and other commercial entities over the past 35 years.

Mr Haakon's experience and expertise will help further establish IDELIX as a visualization leader in geospatial-intelligence and defense markets.

Dr. Dwight Porter
President, Applied Decision Resources

Dr. Dwight Porter is the President of Applied Decision Resources, a strategic planning, product management, and consulting firm based in St. Paul, Minnesota. From 1985 to the present day, his company's clients have included 3M, AT&T, Harris, Honeywell Inc., Sprint, and many more small and large firms in North America and Europe.

From 1974 to 1999, Dr. Porter taught applied economics, management, and marketing at the University of St. Thomas at both the graduate and undergraduate level. Dr. Porter holds an undergraduate degree in economics from Harvard, and a Ph.D. from the University of Maryland. His energy and experience will be an invaluable asset to IDELIX in the successful expansion of Pliable Display Technology into the consumer market.

Laurie Wallace
Consultant

Mr. Wallace, a proven entrepreneur, has successfully co-founded, managed and sold two technology companies. In 1995, he co-founded Datum Telegraphic and served as President and CEO until its sale in 2000 to PMC-Sierra. In 2005, he co-founded FlyOver Entertainment which managed and subsequently sold in 2006 to Vivendi.

He presently serves as an investor, board member and advisor to a number of technology companies in and around Vancouver. Mr. Wallace earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Computer Science from the University of Calgary.

Bill Buxton
Senior Researcher, Microsoft Research

Bill Buxton is a designer and a researcher concerned with human aspects of technology. His work reflects a particular interest in the use of technology to support creative activities such as design, filmmaking and music. Mr. Buxton's research specialties include technologies, techniques and theories of input to computers, technology mediated human-human collaboration, and ubiquitous computing. From 1994 to early 2004, Bill was Chief Scientist of Alias/Wavefront Inc., and its parent company SGI Inc. He is Principal and Founder of Buxton Design and an Associate Professor in the Department of Computer Science at the University of Toronto. In December 2005, Buxton assumed a position as Senior Researcher at Microsoft Research.

Mr. Buxton holds a Bachelor of Music degree from Queen's University and a M.Sc. in Computer Science on Computer Music at the University of Toronto. Designing and using computer-based tools for music composition and performance is what led him into the area of human-computer interaction. In addition to his university research, Buxton had a strong connection to industry and applied work. He has consulted to a number of technology companies, and had a long association as a consulting research scientist with Xerox PARC.

In 1995, Buxton became the third recipient of the Canadian Human-Computer Communications Society Award for contributions to research in computer graphics and human-computer interaction, and was given the New Media Visionary of the Year Award at the 2000 Canadian New Media Awards. In 2002, he was elected to the CHI Academy. Mr. Buxton and his wife also own a contemporary art gallery, Gallery 888, in Toronto, Canada.

Dr. Sheelagh Carpendale, Ph.D. (Computer Science)

Dr. Sheelagh Carpendale is an associate professor at the Department of Computer Science at the University of Calgary. Her research interests include information visualization, user interface design, human-computer interaction, visual languages and graph layout.

Though her current professional focus is computing science she has a background in both arts and sciences. She left high school with science scholarships but instead initially opted for fine arts, attending Sheridan College, School of Design and Emily Carr, Institute of Art and Design. For ten years she worked professionally in the arts. During this time she taught at Humber College and was involved in establishing the Harbourfront Arts Centre at York Quay, in Toronto. Dr. Carpendale reconnected with her interests in math and science by studying computing science at Simon Fraser University, where she obtained a Bachelor of Science in Computing Science and went on to complete a Ph.D. in March of 1999. She has found the combined visual arts and computing science background invaluable in her information visualization research.

While at SFU, Dr. Carpendale was also a Research Associate with the SEED (Simulating and Exploring Ecosystem Dynamics) project. The purpose of the SEED project was to create a suite of tools for assisting the process of building and running spatially explicit models of landscape dynamics, and for exploring, visualizing and analyzing the results of such simulations.

Dr. Carpendale's Ph. D Thesis entitled "A Framework in Elastic Presentation Space" provided the early research foundation of IDELIX's Pliable Display Technology.

Dr. David Cowperthwaite, Ph.D. (Computer Science)
Software Engineer, Intel

Dr. David Cowperthwaite is currently a Senior Software Engineer at Intel Corporation. His current research interests include computer graphics, information visualization, user interface design, human-computer interaction, and visual languages.

Dr. Cowperthwaite holds a Ph.D. in Applied Science from the School of Computing Science at Simon Fraser University. While attending SFU, he worked in the GrUVi (GRaphics, Usability and VIsualization) Lab, located at SFU's Center for Systems Science (CSS). Here he participated with an inter-disciplinary team of researchers exploring and developing novel methods in Computer Graphics and Human-Computer Interaction and the use of these methods in a variety of applications. His areas of research focus have included Information Visualization, Animation, Scientific Visualization, Medical Imaging, and Haptic Interfaces.

Garth Shoemaker
Ph.D. Student, Department of Computer Science, University of British Columbia

Garth is currently a graduate student at the University of British Columbia, conducting studies related to human interaction with large displays. Before he returned to school to pursue his Ph.D., Garth was Director of Research at IDELIX. Garth led the IDELIX R&D team in developing innovative user experience technologies and techniques for dealing with visual data. He will continue to play an active role with the IDELIX R&D team during his studies. Prior to IDELIX, Garth worked at Electronic Arts Canada as a Guest Researcher, as well as at a startup company developing technologies for next generation interactive television systems. Past academic research focused on Single Display Groupware and multiple mouse interaction technologies. Garth has published several times at top academic conferences, and is author of several patent applications. He has a strong background in usability and software design, and in his formative years worked as a professional orchestra musician.
